Cal Peacock
Cal PeacockGiven the mood and spirit of this time in history, we need a new story. My contribution to this shift is by assisting clients in recalling and refining their ancestral story; then turning that story into a myth by illustrating the symbols I intuit.

Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell said, "What we need is a new myth to encompass the whole." After studying in the UK with world-renowned mythologist Martin Shaw, PhD, my understanding of mythology evolved. Paraphrasing Martin Shaw, "It's not going to be one myth to encompass the whole. It's not going to be one guy with an ego and a laptop in the backroom typing out some shiny new story that no one's ever heard before. Myth has no author. For a story to become mythic it has to filter through many cultures and many generations over time. This is the alchemy necessary to incubate a myth and bring forth a conscious entity, aware of itself. This entity is the symbolic language of the psyche, a prehistoric form of therapy. The only myth that we have ownership to is our own ancestral story; it's already filtered through different cultures and generations over time."

Carl Jung said, 'Everyone's soul purpose is to recall and refine our story.' Martin takes it one step further by saying how we refine it is by turning all the characters into archetypes thereby turning our personal story into a mythology.

As individuals develop their personal mythologies, like threads weaving the fabric of the collective consciousness, the global zeitgeist naturally shifts. When the number of mythologies reach a quantum tipping point, like the hundredth monkey theory, the paradigm will shift.

Everything starts with story. I illustrate stories.
